That link doesn’t mention the thickness of the wire does it? Looks pretty thin.for the voltage and current involved I’d recommend 18ga or thicker. You might get away with22ga over short distance but anything thinner probably wouldn’t work. I would try different wire before giving up. If you want a better driver it’ll cost you a bit more. A seller named x-wossee on eBay has good reputation and product. He sells a3amp driver for 30$ shipped . I’ve never used one but has good features like connection for safety interlocks And Comes with temp sensor that you can install on heatsink for overheating protection. Also has test points where you can connect meter directly and measure the current using voltmeter. I’m attaching a photo for reference. I’d still try thicker wire before raising the white flag though.
