I was curious as to what the approximate weight of a 500 watt chinese cnc spindle is. I am consider buying one in place of my 660 for noise purposes.

Depends on the spindle. Somewhere between 5 and 10 pounds.

Oh damn they are that heavy? They look small and more compact. I figured they had to be lighter.

Wow i check the aliexpress spindle I was looking at and the entire package is 11 lb… I know those little PSU are maybe 3 or 4 lb at best so the spindle must be 5 or 6 for sure.

It really does depend on exactly what type of spindle, but I have a broken one that is about 2 pounds. I really doubt it would be higher than max 5 pounds though.
Is it something like this one you are looking at ? : http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-Air-cooled-Engraver-Spindle-Motor-Engraving-Milling-500W-ER11-DC110V-3-175mm-/131874502172

Yes that is basically what I am looking at. Just something lighter then the DW600 with sufficient performance.
