haha, my lowrider is not collecting dust, it´s collecting wood chips!
yesterday i cut a 1,5cm piece to attach around the 611 plate, put a 3mm cutout in the middle and glued bristles to it.
Will try if it works today.
Thinking about attaching it with magnets, so it´ll be removable.
Hey there everybody,
i tinkering around with dust collection the last few days (as chips are stating to pile up behind my machine), built a cyclone and attached it to the shop vac (just a small thingie)
I noticed, that that wasn´t sufficient enough to suck the majority of chips into the seperator.
Has anyone built a “dust shoe” for the…[Read more]
I´m cutting birch multiplex with 8+ laminates.
I just bought this one https://www.sorotec.de/shop/Zerspanungswerkzeuge/sorotec-werkzeuge/2-schneider/Schaftfraeser-HOLZ/
It has some good recensions on the Internet. My first “expensive” bit, hehe 🙂
Excited where this will go!
Btw, had a 4 Flute laying around and tried it out, cuts are r…[Read more]
Thanks for the answer 🙂
My estimated settings on this project would be 6mm per Pass (8mm 2 Flute bit) – 10mm/s . 90 degree plunge angle with 5mm/s plunge feedrate. Material is 18mm thick.
The big circle will be a full thickness cut.
Haven´t noticed that time window in preview 🙂 Learned another thing, hehe!
I just tested bits like…[Read more]
as i already learned much in this forum, i´d like to ask some questions (hope they are not sticky anywhere and i just oversaw them)
so there´s multiple questions 🙂 :
-How fast do you run the machine? (Ryan said he´s cutting 6mm Plywood in one pass with around 15mm/s)
-How fast do you set your plunge Feedrate (Ryan wr…[Read more]
i was just wondering, if the Z Axis lowering could be prevented by springloading it?
Would there be any negative downsides of doing so?
If i need to hit the emergency switch, the Z Axis comes down so fast, that the spinning bit ruins the workpiece almost every time (Happy that i need to press it not that often :D)
Realized the table isn´t as flat as i thaught!
Got like 1,5mm difference from start to end of the table!
But i´m still very happy with the machine!
Here´s a picture where i engraved the workingspace with a V-Bit and tested some letters 🙂
Hey there again!
Thanks for your answer.
I’ll re measure tomorrow when I’m in the shop.
I always zero the bit above the workpiece with a piece of paper. Make sure it’s running a little bit on the paper and then start cutting.
Will give some measurements and Futher detail tomorrow when in shop.
i´m using the standard firmware and just noticed that all my cuts are around 1,6mm too deep.
Any idea on this?
I tried using the reprap step calculator but i´m not quite sure if my Z Axis is really running 32th stepping?
Standard Setting is 788.
Using a 2mm Pitch Leadscrew
Any ideas on this?
I´m not able to re…[Read more]
As im kinda new to all this CNC stuff, i was asking myself : how do i cut angles?
I plan using the LowRider to cut some speaker boxes (hobby´ish) and being able to cut some angles would be nice.
It´s not that i only need 45degree cuts, there are many different ideas in my head (building folded horns for example)
Am i right, t…[Read more]
Indeed very flat 🙂
Built after the torsion table design (i think it was mentioned here a few times)

-Little thingie for the girlfriend (second cut with the lowrider)
as it might be interesting to other people, i opened a new thread instead of adding it to my last one.
After my leadscrews began to squeak a little, i used some teflon dry lube spray.
No squeaking, everything runs smooth.
As there is less friction now, the Z axis is lowering under it´s own weight now.
But sadly not…[Read more]
